Location: North Wales
The 3rd UK Storm Gathering Sea Kayak Symposium will be held on Anglesey over the weekend beginning Saturday 25th and running through to 27th October 2008. The cost for attending the three days will be £125. This includes access to all workshops, evening lectures, social events and a symposium souvenir.

BCU Coach Education, Star Awards, trips and further coaching opportunities are planned to run from 28th - 31st October. Courses and trips will run when workable numbers are reached.

The Symposium will be based at Anglesey Outdoors and workshops/ journeys will launch from the surrounding bays and harbours

Particpants will need to arrange their own accommodation. An information sheet listing options, above and beyond that which Angelsey Outdoors has on offer, will be made available in due course.

The aim of this symposium is to bring together kayakers of all abilities with similar passions and provide a practical programme with an emphasis on preparing for challenging conditions, commitment and open crossings. There will be a number of well known names from the sea kayaking world exhibiting at this event.

On the water clinics are likley to be based around the following themes : navigation, boat handling, boat repair, leadership and incident management, paddling skills and journey planning and led by guest coaches from within the UK and further afield.

A symposium flyer is available for download below in PDF Format

A booking form is available on request

Please e-mail Mark should you wish to discuss matters relating to the symposium

Its good to see that there has been a healthy interest in this years event with quite few folk already signing up and getting their accommodation sorted at Anglesey Outdoors

As with all symposiums there will be an upper limit to how many participants can attend so that workshops on the water are manageable and the event itself doesn't become overwhelmed

Please e-mail me if you would like a booking form and that way I can keep track of enquiries

I'm happy to send it as an attachment or through the post (if you supply an address)

Other news - I'm currently exploring options for guest speakers, the Storm Gathering party and a suitable symposium souvenir

Please feel free to offer thoughts, opinions and ideas, they will all go towards creating a better event

And finally, it would be good to see the gallery grow and as such there is an added incentive but I'll let you find out what that is

All the best for now :0)

I have invited Patrick Winterton to speak on the Saturday night and the dynamic team of Barry Shaw and Justine Curgenven for the Sunday night.

Patrick is rapidly establishing himself as accomplished long distance solo voyager. Following his 'Scottish Extremities' and 'Stevensons' lights' expeditions Patrick will make a third extreme journey 'Celtic Tiderace' which will focus on the little known islands off the coast of Ireland and will follow the story of St Brendan the navigator, a 6th century Irish saint.

Justine and Barry’s individual resumes of paddling achievements are impressive enough. However, those were topped recently by their circumnavigation of New Zealand’s South Island in 47 paddling days!

This year will see the introduction of a paddlers pass for the Storm Gathering to ensure we can monitor participant numbers and will be used for the prize draw on Sunday night. Along with this, we hope to put together a delegate pack containing information manufactures and providers who can’t exhibit plus on or two extra goodies.

Thanks go to Kay Southway for submitting her pictures to the gallery. Remember you have to be in it to win it. So make it a two horse race and send something in

Please be aware that spaces on the symposium and accommodation at Anglesey Outdoors are of a premium (unless you plan to camp). So book soon to avoid disappointment.

So far there have been over 250 inquiries for this year's Storm Gathering which is really encouraging as it indicates this kind of event has an appeal and could become a regular calendar fixture

However, I must stress there are only 60 places available this year and so far 40 participants have booked on

If you've requested a booking form via e-mail and not yet received one may I ask folk to check their spam filters as my Google Mail, especially with attachments, has been going directly to junk mail in some instances. This seems to be the case particularly with Yahoo! and BT Internet accounts

During BCU Week courses will run when workable numbers are reached and it is likely that day trips will be laid on also

Snowie at Anglesey Outdoors also reports a healthy take up on all the accommodation options

There have been some changes to the line up of guest coaches, which is inevitable, but those who can attend have provided some background information so participants can get an idea of who'll be on the water and what they've been up to

The delegate pack is growing into a sizeable goodie bag with contributions from the RNLI, NikWax, Kari-Tek and Pesda Press along with information from manufactures and providers who are unable to exhibit in October. Get in touch if you have flyers/information about products/services you wish to see promoted

There have been further additions to the gallery but it would be great to showcase lots of pictures highlighting people's adventures and there's still a prize in it for the best contribution

Contact me if you have any questions about the 3rd UK Storm Gathering and remember next year will be in Cornwall with Jeff and Simon
